Understanding Responsive Website Design

Posted by Kelly Savard on Thu, Apr 20, 2017

our website needs to compete with hundreds, if not thousands, of other sites in your niche. Now, more than ever, it is important that you stay ahead of the curve with the design elements you include in your site. Customers, and search engines in fact, are beginning to demand that your site be easily accessible from mobile devices. What does this mean for you?

Responsive website design is the practice of designing a website that adjusts itself according to the size of the screen, and type of browser, being used to view it. Visitors are viewing their favorite sites from a slew of different devices, and your site needs to be ready to respond to their preferences. Your site needs to load quickly, adjust its images properly, and retain its core functionality, when users view it on smartphones and tablets. Google has made it publicly known that they are factoring in the responsiveness of your website within the algorithm they use to rank you in their index.

If you want to know if your site is currently responsive, simply try visiting it from your phone or tablet, and watch how it responds. If your experience is less than acceptable, you should be considering steps to fix it. You should also be able to adjust your web browsing window to different sizes, and see your site respond to this in a manner that keeps your website images and navigation respectably attractive and useful.
